My husband suddenly saw Love Scores floating above people's heads. Mine read 59. The new girl's read 100. He chose her without hesitation—called my decade of sacrifice fake, ignored my pregnancy, and walked out while I bled on the floor. What he never bothered to check was the threshold. My maximum was 59. I gave him every single point I had. Her maximum was 10,000. He got one percent of her love—and she was saying the same things to ninety-nine other men. By the time he figured it out, my score had already hit zero.

After three months of the silent treatment, I finally go to Dominic with a positive pregnancy test, ready to end this stupid fight. The second I walk in, I see two fresh kiss marks on his neck. Before I can say anything, he looks at me and says coldly, "Annelise, aren't you sick of pretending to love me?" I just stare at him. "What?" "Three months ago, I suddenly started seeing people's Love Scores." "We've been together for ten years. Your score is only 59." "Even my own mother, the woman who abandoned me as a kid, is over 70." "But Verity has only known me for three days, and she's already at 100." Then he slides a separation agreement across to me. "Sign it." "You're still my wife on paper." "But Verity really loves me. I can't just walk away from her." He says it like it's the most reasonable thing in the world. What he doesn't know is that I can see the numbers too. He thinks 100 means someone loves him completely, and 59 means they don't love him enough. He has no idea that's not how it works. Everyone has a different Love Threshold. Mine is 59. Verity's is 10,000. And there's one more thing he doesn't know: the woman he thinks loves him more than anyone else is seeing a whole list of other men on the side. He's just one of them. "So that's it?" I ask. "This is why you've been giving me the silent treatment for three months?" My grip loosens, and the paper bag slips from my hand into the trash, the pregnancy test falling in with it. I'm not telling him now. He doesn't get to know about his own child. Dominic frowns, then laughs at himself. "I cheated on you, and you're still asking why I gave you the silent treatment?" "I told you I didn't think you loved me, and you didn't even try to explain. I used to think you were just cold." "Then I saw your score. Now I know, you just don't love me enough." I take a step closer, my eyes fixed on the marks on his neck. "So you really think I've been faking it for ten years?" "Yeah." No hesitation. Just one word. Fine. That's it. Whatever was left in me just died. "Okay. Then believe it. I've been faking it for ten years. And today I finally realize what a damn idiot you are." He goes quiet, clearly not expecting that. Then he gives me a cold smile. "So you admit it now?" "Admit what?" I fold my arms. "That you trust a woman you've known for three days more than the wife who took a knife for you?" His face changes. I pull up my left sleeve and show him the scar on my wrist. "Look. When it happened, nobody even had time to react. I did. I jumped in front of you." Then I lift my shirt and show him the scar on my stomach. "And this? This is from the kidney I gave you. You were holding my hand back then. You told me you'd love me forever." I drop my shirt. "Tell me, Dominic. Does your little score show any of that?" For a second he looks shaken. Then he looks away. "Even if all of that is true, that doesn't change one thing. Your score is 59. Everything you did for me could just be duty, or responsibility. But Verity is different." I cut him off. "Verity? She's the part-time barista from the café downstairs, right? She's only known you for three days, and she's already at 100? And then?" He hesitates, his voice quieter now. "Three months ago, I was away on a business trip. Someone slipped something into my drink." "Verity happened to be in the same city. I was barely conscious when she found me. She helped me, and we ended up sleeping together." He pauses. "It was her first time." "I offered her money to settle things and move on, but she wouldn't take it." "We argued, and things got so heated we nearly got into a car accident. She stepped in front of me." "That's when I saw her score. 100. That was the first time I knew what it felt like to be loved completely." I almost laugh. Completely, huh? Three months ago, the worst thing on my mind was that he'd forgotten to kiss me that morning. He doesn't say anything. He just leaves for a business trip. Then he disappears. No texts, no calls. He doesn't even tell me where he is. For three months, I do everything I can to find him. I can barely eat or sleep. My hair starts falling out in clumps. Every day, I keep asking myself, "What did I do wrong?" Then I find out I'm pregnant. When Dominic finally comes back from his "business trip," I plan to tell him. I want to surprise him, to give this marriage one more chance. Instead, I get this. Dominic touches the braided bracelet on his wrist. His expression softens. "Verity learned to make this just for my birthday. She spent three days on it. She even had a fever, and she still finished it before my birthday." "She told me it was the first time she'd ever loved someone this much. She said she'd give me everything she had." I glance at the simple braided bracelet. I know exactly where it came from. Some cheap online marketplace. Verity bought a hundred of them. A hundred identical braided bracelets. She even sent me the referral link and asked me to use it so she could get the reward. And somehow, one of those hundred ended up on Dominic's wrist. He has no clue. Years ago, when Verity worked part-time at that café, she followed my personal account because she wanted to drive more traffic to the café's social media page. I guess she forgot about me. Or maybe she just never cared. Either way, she never blocked me. So I could see everything. She'd post private Stories for different men, always making each one feel special. "This is just for you." Later, she even added me to her private girls' group. She thinks I'm one of her girls. She has no idea I'm Dominic's wife. And the man I've loved for ten years can't even tell when he's being played. He sees a performance and calls it love. I'm done arguing. I take the separation agreement and push it back to him. "Forget this. Let's just get divorced." "You think Verity really loves you? Fine. I'll get out of your way. Go be with her." Dominic's brows pull together. "Annelise, what the hell are you doing? You didn't even read the agreement. I'm not asking you for a divorce. I'm just asking you not to interfere with me and Verity." "We've been together for ten years. Even if there's no love left, we're still family. I'll take care of you for the rest of your life." "Or what? Did I hit a nerve? You don't love me, so now you're suddenly in a hurry to leave?" That does it. "Dominic, I honestly didn't know you could be this shameless." I point at the marks on his neck. " Those are proof you cheated on me. I'll take pictures. If we actually go to court, you're the one who cheated, and you might end up with nothing." He's about to argue when his eyes suddenly lock on the number above my head. His expression changes. "Your score... it's 40 now? How did you lose 19 points that fast?" I look straight at him. "You stand in front of me and tell me you love another woman. What do you think? Should my score go up?" He opens his mouth to answer, but nothing comes out. Before he can say anything, his phone rings. He picks up, and his expression changes again. Then he turns to leave.

I grab Dominic's arm. "Wait. I'm not done." He looks annoyed. "Verity's alone on the side of the road. Something happened to her." "I have to go. We'll talk when I get back." He yanks his arm free so hard I stumble into the wall and crash to the floor. The door slams shut behind him. I pick up my phone. Ten minutes ago, Verity posted a story. [My heel got stuck in a street drain. I wonder who'll be the first to come save me?] She even added her location. I tap like. Then I take a screenshot. Her private girls' group is already going crazy. [Girls, guess who gets there first?] Everyone starts voting. Dominic's name is way ahead. Then Verity sends a voice message. Her voice is sweet. Way too sweet. "You girls guessed right. He's almost here." "The second he heard I was in trouble, he rushed over like crazy." "I only had to slip something into his drink once. Then I faked that whole car accident, and he actually bought it." A video pops up in the group. It’s the fake rescue she staged for Dominic. I watch it once. That's enough. Her acting is terrible. The group chat fills with laughing emojis. [Verity, your acting is so bad.] She replies: [Who cares? It worked.] Then she sends another voice message. "Thank God I got my tits done before we fucked. You should've seen how fucking obsessed he was." My stomach turns. I rush to the sink and gag. I almost laugh. So this is what he thinks 100 looks like? I don't know how to put on a show. I don't know how to fake some big romantic moment. So the fact that I stepped in front of that knife for him means nothing. The deals I busted my ass to get for him mean nothing. The kidney I gave him to save his life means nothing. Apparently, none of that counts. I splash water on my face, grab my coat, and pull up Verity's location. Then I go after them. When I get there, Dominic is carrying Verity in his arms. He's holding her high heel in his other hand. And he's looking at her the way he used to look at me. Then I see the shoes and stop cold. I know those shoes. Dominic designed them himself. The rhinestones are custom. There isn't another pair like them. I've been looking for them forever. I thought I lost them. I even blamed myself for being careless. Turns out they weren't lost. Dominic gave them to Verity. And somehow, the woman he loves has the exact same shoe size as his wife. Cute. Dominic picks her up and carries her into the car, then turns around and sees me. "Annelise?" There's panic in his eyes. He walks straight toward me. "You followed me? Did you come here to start something with Verity?" I look at the shoes. "Those are mine." His face tightens. "They're just shoes. I'll make you another pair. Just leave her alone." My stomach twists again, and I gag. Dominic reaches for me on instinct. For a second, he actually looks worried. Then Verity jumps out of the car. "What the hell are you doing?" She raises her hand. Slap. Right across my face. "You shameless bitch! You're seriously hitting on my boyfriend right in front of me?" That's it. I slap her back. Hard. Her head snaps to the side. She just stands there, holding her cheek, staring at me. "That slap is for crossing the line." Then I look at Dominic. "Didn't you tell her? She's the other woman. I'm your wife. So what's wrong with me hitting her back?" Dominic snaps at me, "Enough!" "Annelise, you've gone too far!" I laugh. "I've gone too far?" Then I step closer to Verity. My voice drops. "Remember those one hundred identical bracelets?” ”Want me to tell Dominic what you're really like?" Her expression changes instantly. "You... I don't know what you're talking about. Don't even try to scare me." Dominic looks between us. "What are you two talking about?" Verity immediately grabs her chest. "Dominic, she's threatening me. I can't breathe. My asthma..." She keeps talking, then suddenly goes limp. Dominic catches her. He looks at me like I'm the problem. "Go home. I'll make you another pair of shoes. Just stop upsetting her." Verity looks up at me from Dominic's arms and gives me the tiniest smile. Dominic doesn't notice. She makes sure I do. I watch Dominic carry her away. Then I stop a taxi. As soon as I get in, the driver looks at me in the mirror. He hands me two tissues. "Miss, your lip is bleeding." I take them and force a smile. "Thanks." A stranger notices. Dominic doesn't. Funny. He wants me to love him with everything I've got. But he can't even see when I'm hurt. I look at myself in the mirror. My Love Score has dropped again, from 40 to 20. That's fine. Let it keep dropping.

When Dominic comes back, I'm on the floor packing my bags. He crosses the room, drops to one knee in front of me, and reaches for the cut on my face. I turn away, and his hand freezes in midair. His voice softens. "Does it hurt? Let me put something on it." "No, I'm fine." "Annelise." He sighs. "Do you have to be this stubborn? Verity didn't know I was married. She thought you were some woman trying to steal her boyfriend.” “She's just too in love with me to think straight. She'll never do it again. I'll make it up to you.” "Just stop going after her. Okay?" I look at him. "What if I don't? She's the one who slept with a married man. If this gets out, I'd really like to see how she explains that." The room goes dead quiet. Dominic stares at me, and the last bit of warmth in his eyes disappears. "Go ahead. You can try." A chill runs through me. I know that look. Years ago, some guy harassed me on the street. Dominic stood between us with the same look on his face. I get up and head for the door. I just want out. Then Dominic grabs my wrist. "Annelise. Your score... it's down to 20?" He's staring at the number over my head, his eyes red. "Already? You lost another 20 points?" I look at him. "You gave my shoes to the woman you're sleeping with. You let her slap me. Then you came back here and threatened me. You literally told me, 'Go ahead. You can try.'” “So tell me, Dominic. Should my score be going up? Or down?" His expression hardens. Before he can answer, his phone rings. He picks up, his face changing instantly, then rushes out the door. At the same time, messages start flooding the girls' group chat. Verity: [Girls, what the hell do I do? I'm pregnant! I don't even know who the hell the father is.] [I just texted every guy I've been with. None of them replied except Dominic.] [But I'm sure it's not his.] [He was blackout drunk that night. We didn't even go all the way.] The girls immediately start giving her ideas. Just tell him it's his. Don't crack. Keep the story going — you can sort out the rest later. I don't say a word. I just save every screenshot. A few hours later, Dominic comes home. He stands in the living room for a long time. Then he finally says, "Annelise. Verity is pregnant. The baby is mine." I just look at him. He lowers his voice. "We should get divorced." Then he comes over and hugs me. "It's only temporary. She's carrying my baby, and she's threatening to kill herself.” “Annelise, once the baby is born, I'll leave her. Then I'll come back. We'll get married again." I don't fight him. I just put my hand on my stomach. The baby is so small, still so new inside me. "Dominic. Do you remember my miscarriage last year? You stayed with me all night. Do you remember what you told me?" He goes still, and for a moment neither of us speaks. "You said if we ever had another baby... you'd protect me and our child with your life." I slowly push him away. "What if I tell you something? I'm pregnant too." He frowns, about to say something, when his phone rings again. It's Verity. Her voice comes through the speaker, sobbing hard. "Dominic, help me! Someone pushed me! I'm bleeding! I think I'm losing the baby! They said your wife sent them! Dominic, you lied to me! Why did you make me the other woman?" My mind goes blank. Dominic's eyes go red. He rushes over and grabs me by the throat. "Annelise, how could you? She loves me! What did she ever do to you? Why are you trying to hurt her baby?" "I didn't—" I try to explain, but he shoves me away. My lower back slams into the edge of the table, and pain shoots through my stomach. I can't even get back on my feet. Dominic looks at me. Cold. "You'd better pray her baby is okay. If anything happens to that child, I swear I'll make you pay." The pain in my abdomen gets worse with every second. My legs give out and I hit the floor. I grab his pants. "Dominic... please... take me to the hospital. I'm pregnant. I'm telling you the truth.” “That baby is yours."
